Traffic Grinds to a Halt After Floodwaters Inundate Colombo Streets

Heavy rainfall on Friday (6) evening inundated several parts of Colombo and its surrounding suburbs, causing widespread flooding and disrupting normal traffic flow across the city.

Waterlogged roads were reported in multiple areas as intense rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems, leaving motorists stranded and commuters facing long delays during the evening rush hour.

Police said major traffic congestion was reported along several key roads in Colombo, with floodwaters slowing vehicle movement and creating difficult driving conditions in a number of locations.

Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling through affected areas and advised the public to use alternative routes where possible as floodwaters continued to impact traffic movement across parts of the capital.
