Unrest reported at Kuruwita Prison, tear gas used
Unrest broke out among a group of inmates at Kuruwita Prison on Friday, with authorities deploying tear gas to restore order after tensions escalated, according to a prison spokesperson.
Initial disturbance began Thursday night and was brought under control by prison officials it was reported. However, unrest resumed Friday morning.
A group of inmates reportedly damaged the prison hospital during the unrest, while several inmates were also reported injured.
Authorities used tear gas to contain the situation and restore order inside the facility.
