CEB Dissolved: Six New Successor Companies to Take Over
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) was officially abolished at midnight yesterday, in accordance with the extraordinary gazette issued recently.
Under the provisions of Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024, all clauses, except for several specific provisions, come into effect from today. As a result, the CEB will undergo a complete, formal restructuring.
The extraordinary gazette outlines the establishment of six successor companies, to which the functions and responsibilities of the former Electricity Board will be transferred.
These new entities have been created to handle electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and system operations.
According to the gazette, regulatory measures have been put in place to ensure that each of these functions is assigned to one of the six newly established companies.
Meanwhile, out of the six institutions formed to replace the abolished CEB, three have already been assigned newly appointed General Managers.
