A suspect who allegedly distributed narcotics under the guise of a courier service has been arrested with 107 grams of ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine) in Kalmunai, Police said.

The suspect is accused of distributing drugs to the Maruthamunai and Sainthamaruthu areas while posing as a courier delivering goods.

The arrest was made during a raid conducted on Beach Road in Kalmunai by officers of the Ampara Division Criminal Investigation Bureau, acting on instructions of Officer-in-Charge Chief Inspector Satarasinghe. The operation was carried out by the Corruption Suppression Unit led by Sub-Inspector Priyankara along with a team of officers.

Police said the narcotics were discovered concealed inside several toys.

Officers also seized Rs. 39,620 in cash believed to have been earned through drug trafficking, along with an electronic weighing scale and two mobile phones from the suspect.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Kalmunai Police.
