Japan invites Sri Lankans to design logo marking 75 years of diplomatic relations

The Government of Japan has announced a public logo design competition to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka in 2027.

According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the winning design will be selected as the official logo for a series of commemorative events planned to celebrate the milestone and strengthen relations between the two countries.

The competition is open to citizens of Japan and Sri Lanka, regardless of age or country of residence.

Participants must submit their designs by November 13, 2026, via email to japansrilanka75@mofa.go.jp, with the subject line “Logo Entry.”

Submissions must include both color and black-and-white versions of the logo, along with a separate explanation of approximately 80 words describing the design.

Entries must be submitted in JPEG, PDF or EPS format, with a maximum file size of 3 MB and a resolution of at least 300 DPI.

The ministry has specifically prohibited the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in creating logos, citing potential copyright concerns.

All designs must be original, unpublished and free from copyright or trademark infringements.

The winning design is expected to be announced through the ministry’s official website around late December 2026.

However, the ministry clarified that the selected designer will not receive prize money, an award or any other form of compensation.

Copyright and other rights relating to submitted designs will belong to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the competition’s terms.

The selected logo will be used in official activities commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
