Sri Lanka Navy Seizes Drug-Laden Fishing Vessels Off Beruwala and Dondra
Sri Lanka Police report that the fishing vessel involved in drug trafficking, which was taken into naval custody near the coastal area of Beruwala, had set out for drug transport under the orders received by an individual from Negombo, before being intercepted by the Sri Lanka Navy.
Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau.
The vessel had departed from Galle on March 13. Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath confirmed that it was brought to Dikovita Harbor yesterday, where six suspects were taken into custody.
Onboard, the Navy recovered 10 suspicious bundles of cocaine, weighing approximately 260 kilograms.
In a separate operation in the deep seas south of Dondra, another fishing vessel was intercepted and brought to Dikovita Harbor carrying 123 packets of heroin, totaling 133 kilograms, which have now been handed over to the Navy.
The fishing fessel, with five suspects onboard, was intercepted and taken into naval custody in the deep seas south of Dondra on March 15, on suspision of drug trafficking.
