
Rs. 23 Bn in Drugs Smuggled by Sea Over Past 2 Months
Sri Lankan police have seized Rs. 23 billion worth of narcotics smuggled into the country via multi-day fishing vessels over the past two months.
According to police reports, between April 5 and May 28, authorities confiscated a total of 1,758 kilograms of illegal drugs, including 1,216 kg of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as "Ice") and 542 kg of heroin.
The estimated street value of the seized heroin is Rs. 10.84 billion, while the crystal meth is valued at approximately Rs. 12.16 billion.
A total of 25 suspects have been arrested in connection with the smuggling operations.
The Police Narcotics Bureau has launched further investigations to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network and its international links.
