The number of tourists that have arrived in Sri Lanka so far this month has surpassed 143,000.

Sri Lanka welcomed 143,623 international tourists in the first 27 days of September, with India continuing to dominate the tourism market, according to the latest figures released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

India accounted for 45,679 arrivals, representing around 32% of all tourists who visited Sri Lanka during the month.

China was the second-largest source market, recording 10,081 arrivals, while Australia ranked third with 10,067 visitors.

The United Kingdom and Germany rounded out the top five markets, with 9,967 and 6,745 arrivals respectively.

The September figures pushed Sri Lanka’s cumulative tourist arrivals for 2026 to 1,678,745.

India remained the largest contributor during the January-September period with 431,162 arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 159,956.

China recorded 110,909 arrivals, while Germany contributed 96,746 and Australia 86,105.
