Sri Lanka Customs unpacks Canadian Painter’s Rs. 201 million Surprise
A 27-year-old Canadian national has been arrested at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) after Sri Lanka Customs officers detected more than 20 kilograms of hashish in his baggage.
The suspect, who is employed as a painter, arrived from Toronto, Canada, via Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR662 at around 2.30 a.m. on Sunday (26).
Officers of the Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit searched his two checked bags and discovered 80 brown-coloured slabs of suspected hashish concealed inside.
Customs said the haul weighed 20.117 kilograms and had an estimated street value of Rs. 201.89 million.
Following preliminary investigations by Customs, the suspect and the seized drugs were handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation and legal action.
