Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne represented Sri Lanka at the World AI Conference (WAIC) in China, held at the invitation of the Chinese Government. The conference was officially inaugurated by Chinese President Xi Jinping on July 17.

Delivering a special address, the Deputy Minister highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in promoting economic growth, regional development, and technological innovation. He noted China's commitment to advancing AI technologies and supporting their wider adoption for the benefit of all countries.

The conference brought together several regional leaders and senior government representatives, who shared their countries' AI strategies and technological advancements. Discussions included Kazakhstan's plans to establish an AI City, Cambodia's emphasis on strengthening AI development through global cooperation with China, and Thailand's vision for regional technological progress.

On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Minister Weeraratne, together with Digital Economy Ministry Advisor Suludu Ranasinghe, held discussions with digital ministers and technology leaders from several countries. The meetings focused on enhancing regional cooperation, exchanging technological expertise, and strengthening partnerships to accelerate Sri Lanka's digital transformation.
