Above 75 mm of rain expected in some Provinces of Sri Lanka today

The prevailing showery condition over Sri Lanka is expected to continue during the next few days due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, according to the Department of Meteorology.

As such, showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the island after 1.00 pm today (07).

Showers are likely in the Western, North-western and Northern provinces and in Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts in the morning.

Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely in some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern and North-central provinces.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be South-westerly and wind speed will be 25-35 kmph.

The sea areas around the island can be Slight to moderate.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
