Weather: Showers likely after 1 pm today
Showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1 p.m., with fairly heavy falls exceeding 50 mm likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, according to the latest weather forecast, the Department of Meteorology said.
The public has been advised to take precautions against damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
In sea areas, showers or thundershowers are expected at several locations off the coast from Colombo to Batticaloa via Galle and Hambantota.
Winds will be southwesterly or variable at 20 to 30 kph, and seas around the island will be slight.
Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers.
