A young man has died in a road accident that occurred in the Mihintale Paluwewa area on the Galenbindunuwewa road in Sippukulama.

Police stated that the accident took place last night when a motorcycle veered off the road and crashed into a tree after the rider lost control of the vehicle due to high speed.

The deceased was a 27-year-old resident of the Sippukulama area.

In a separate incident, an 84-year-old man was killed after being knocked down by a motorcycle on a side road leading towards Saliyapura in Thambalagamuwa. 

The motorcyclist involved in the collision also sustained injuries and has been admitted to the Trincomalee Hospital for treatment.

The police said that two women involved in the killing of a man with a eakle broom in the Poruwadanda area of Horana will be produced before the court today. The victim, a 32-year-old resident of Poruwadanda, passed away yesterday following the assault.

According to reports, the victim had gone to a neighbor's house and caused a dispute by damaging doors and windows. During the altercation, his wife and another woman present at the house reportedly carried out the fatal attack.
