31 Suspects Arrested on Bribery and Corruption Charges in Five Months
Thirty-one suspects have been arrested on bribery or corruption charges within the past five months.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) reports that eight police officers were among those arrested during raids conducted between January 1st and May 31st.
The arrested police officers include a police inspector, a sub-inspector, four sergeants, and two constables.
The commission also stated that a school principal and two public health inspectors were among the suspects taken into custody.
Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremesinghe, who was arrested by Bribery Commission investigators in Nawala last afternoon, has been remanded until the 1st of July.
